MASS SCHOOL BILHARZIA DRUG ADMINISTRATION COMMENCES IN KAKAMEGA
The County Government of Kakamega has launched a countywide mass drug administration exercise targeting Schistosomiasis (Bilharzia) and other intestinal worms.
Speaking during the launch at Kakamega Primary school on Wednesday, the County Director for Public Health Mr. William Olaka said the school-based deworming initiative aims to improve learners’ health, enhance class attendance and ultimately boost academic performance.
The County Government under Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration has procured 1.5 million doses of anti-bilharzia drugs sufficient to cover the affected population.
Development partners, including Amref Health Africa, Evidence Action and the African Institute for Health Development, have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the exercise to ensure improved health outcomes for residents.
The deworming exercise is ongoing and residents aged two years and above are encouraged to participate in order to combat intestinal worms and improve overall community health.
