GOVERNOR BARASA COMMISSIONS ST. MICHAEL IRENJI ECDE CENTRE IN SHINYALU SUB-COUNTY
H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa today commissioned the modern St. Michael Irenji ECDE Centre at Irenji Primary School in Isukha West Ward, Shinyalu Sub-County, fulfilling his commitment to provide children with a strong foundation through quality Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
The new facility comprises two classrooms with further, a teachers’ office, a water tank, and modern sanitation facilities, providing a safe and stimulating environment for early learning.
Speaking during the event, Governor Barasa said the establishment of the centre was guided by the conviction that every child deserves a strong start in life through access to quality education. He added that his administration will continue investing in ECDE infrastructure as part of the wider agenda to improve learning outcomes and provide quality education for all children in Kakamega County.
The centre is part of the County Government’s countywide ECDE infrastructure programme, through which the administration has established 62 modern ECDE centres comprising 124 classrooms across Kakamega County.
The Governor also highlighted key development programmes in Isukha West and the wider Shinyalu Sub-County, including the planned construction of Vikunga Dispensary, expansion and improvement of road networks, enhanced access to clean water, and the ongoing construction of Shamakhubu Level IV Hospital, whose implementation has resumed after years of inactivity.
The ceremony was attended by MCAs led by Isukha West MCA Hon. Samuel Segero, CECM for Education Dr. Bernard Amwayi, CECM for Water Mrs. Penina Mukabane, other education stakeholders, parents, and residents.
