GOVERNOR BARASA HOSTS KBC FOR COURTESY CALL, GIVES MEDIA INTERVIEW ON DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

H.E. Governor FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa today hosted a delegation from the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) for a courtesy call at his office before granting a media interview on Kakamega County’s development agenda and key achievements.

During the meeting, the Governor commended KBC for its role as the national broadcaster in providing accurate, balanced and timely information to Kenyans. He said collaboration between the County government and the media is essential in keeping the public informed about development programmes and enhancing citizen engagement.

During a two-hour live interactive interview conducted outside the county headquarters, Governor Barasa highlighted the progress the County Government has made under his administration across key sectors, including education, healthcare, water, roads, agriculture, social development, public service, as well as trade and industrialisation. He said the county remains focused on implementing transformative projects that improve livelihoods and accelerate socio-economic growth.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing flagship initiatives, including the expansion of ECDE infrastructure, implementation of major water projects, improvement of road networks, construction of modern markets, industrial growth such as operationalisation of the Matawa Organic Fertiliser Plant, ongoing Tumbeni Dairy Plant, County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Likuyani and programmes aimed at empowering farmers, traders, youth and women.

While commending the ongoing construction of the County Level VI Teaching and Referral Hospital, Bukhungu Stadium, the Kakamega Airstrip, and key inter-county road infrastructure, Governor Barasa emphasized his administration’s commitment to strengthening service delivery, enhancing accountability, and advancing inclusive development. He said the County Government will continue to foster strategic partnerships with national institutions, deepen public participation, and engage the media to ensure transparent, responsive, and people-centred governance.
