COUNTY CONVENES DISABILITY MAINSTREAMING TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP

The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services convened a Technical Working Group (TWG) inception meeting aimed at strengthening disability inclusion across all health service delivery points in the county.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the disability sector, including representatives from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Kakamega, disability caucus leaders, the departments of Education and Social Services, and other organizations working in the disability space. The forum focused on developing coordinated strategies to ensure persons with disabilities have equitable access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking during the meeting, the County Disability Mainstreaming Coordinator, Mrs. Faith Owuor, emphasized the importance of integrating disability inclusion into all health service delivery, noting that every resident should have equal access to quality healthcare regardless of disability.

Mrs. Owuor further noted that both the national and county governments have disability policies and guidelines in place to support inclusive service delivery and safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities.

The Technical Working Group is expected to provide a platform for coordination among stakeholders and guide the implementation of disability-inclusive interventions across the county’s health sector.
