KAKAMEGA LIVESTOCK CHAMPIONS SHINE AT INTER-COUNTY KeLCoP GALS FAIR

The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, brought together beneficiaries of the Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP) from Kakamega and Trans-Nzoia Counties for the 2026 Inter-County Gender Action Learning System (GALS) Fair.

The event provided a platform for smart households and Market-Oriented Forum Groups to share their transformation experiences and success stories. It also created opportunities for participants to network with GALS champions, market actors, financial service providers and development partners, while showcasing innovative approaches and best practices.

Mr. Oscar Odunga, the County Chief Officer for Livestock, expressed appreciation for KeLCoP’s contribution to Governor Barasa’s food security and wealth creation agenda. He welcomed the extension of the programme, noting that it would provide an opportunity to reach and positively transform the lives of more households.

These sentiments were echoed by Trans-Nzoia County Agriculture CECM, Miss Phanice Khatundi, who observed that participating farmers had experienced increased incomes as a result of the programme. She also expressed pride in the progress made through the β€œVision Road Journey” approach, which has enabled households to establish clear income and nutrition goals and work towards achieving them.

Among the key highlights of the day was the recognition of outstanding participants. Tropical Youth Springs from Lugari emerged as the best Market-Oriented Forum Group (MOFAG), while several individuals were also honoured for their achievements, further showcasing Kakamega County’s success and putting it firmly on the map.

Also present was KeLCoP County Project Coordinator, Ms Frandina Machwenu, among other partners, service providers and stakeholders
