NEST360 TEAM VISITS KAKAMEGA TO REVIEW BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING SUPPORT

A team from NEST360 today paid a courtesy visit to the Kakamega County Department of Health, where they held an engagement with the CECM for Health, Dr. Livingston Imbayi, to review their partnership and support towards strengthening healthcare services in the county.

NEST360 has supported the county in renovating and equipping the Biomedical Engineering Department at Kakamega County General Hospital (CGH), while also facilitating training for clinical teams and biomedical engineers to enhance the management and maintenance of medical equipment.

Since the inception of the partnership in Kakamega, 10 personnel have undergone training in neonatal equipment management, significantly improving the capacity of healthcare workers to ensure that equipment used in caring for newborns and mothers remains functional and in good condition.

The initiative brings together clinicians and biomedical engineers, ensuring close collaboration in the maintenance and management of essential medical equipment, particularly those used in neonatal care.

Speaking during the visit, the NEST360 Country Coordinator appreciated the strong collaboration between the organisation and the county, noting that the partnership had positioned Kakamega as the first county to benefit from the initiative.

In his remarks after receiving the delegation, Dr. Imbayi expressed appreciation to NEST360 for recognising and investing in biomedical engineering, a department he noted is often overlooked despite being central to the effective functioning of other hospital departments.

He observed that since NEST360 came on board, healthcare staff have benefited from specialised training, strengthening the county’s capacity to maintain medical equipment and improve service delivery.

Dr. Imbayi called for continued collaboration between the county and its partners, saying that working together was key to improving the quality of healthcare services for residents.

The delegation was accompanied by several partners, including PATH, Jacaranda Health, Hatch Technologies, the Ministry of Health in Nairobi and the Association of Biomedical Engineers of Kenya.

Also present was Director of Medical Services Dr. Stephen Wandeyi, alongside other health department officials.
