Kakamega Environment Department Begins GRM Exercise Ahead of FLLoCA CRIG III Projects.

The Kakamega County Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, has commenced the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) exercise as it prepares to roll out the third phase of the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme under the County Climate Resilience Investment Grants (CRIG III).

Today, the exercise was carried out in Ikolomani, Likuyani, Mumias West and Mumias East Sub counties as it aims to strengthen the capacity of ward-level and sub-county-level GRM committees to effectively address concerns, complaints and grievances arising from programme activities through engagement with community members and other stakeholders.

The workshop was officially opened by the CECM in charge of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, at Amida’s Conference Hall in Mumias town. It brought together GRM committee members drawn from Mumias West and Mumias East sub-counties.

Speaking during the workshop, Mrs Mukabane underscored the importance of the GRM process in ensuring the effective implementation of community-driven projects, noting that FLLoCA initiatives are locally led and should reflect the needs and priorities of the communities they serve.

She urged the committee members to ensure that projects identified under CRIG III deliver tangible benefits to local residents while contributing to climate resilience and sustainable environmental management.

Mrs. Mukabane, further, emphasised the need for meaningful community participation in project identification and implementation, noting that an effective grievance redress system provides an avenue for stakeholders to raise concerns and seek solutions throughout the project cycle.

The capacity-building exercise is expected to equip the committees with the knowledge and skills required to handle grievances transparently, promote accountability and strengthen community confidence in the implementation of FLLoCA-funded projects.
