HEALTH PARTNERS PLEDGE TO CARRY ON WITH SECTOR FUNDING IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY

A cordial working relationship and coordination between the Government, partners and other stakeholders is essential in ensuring effective implementation of key administrative programs and policies.

It is against this background that the CECM for Health Services Dr Collins Matemba, Wednesday convened a meeting with USAID funded partners at Golf Hotel Kakamega to discuss the way forward for the most critical and highly funded sector in the county.

In his speech, that also served as his maiden official address to the partners, Dr Matemba thanked the donors for their support which he said has guaranteed continued discharge of services to residents even in the face of inconsistency in the nation’s sharable cash flow to counties.

Dr Matemba said there was need for harmonization of operations between the Government and her partners so as to avoid duplication of roles by the latter.

“This is one of the many regular engagements we will be having as health stakeholders in enhancing a structured working arrangement between the Government and her partners,” he said.

He encouraged the partners to continue supporting the programs in the health sector, moreso staff capacity building and challenged them to also offer solutions to shortcomings that may have been earlier witnessed.

The CECM assured that the two departments of Medical Services and Public Health will work closely to enhance delivery of first class services to the residents.

“We all know change is always resisted but most of the stakeholders will have to bear with us for we must make tough decisions to improve the status of the Health sector in Kakamega County,” he added.

Chief Officer for Medical Services CPA John Subai called on the partners to bring the best practices from other areas/counties to Kakamega County.

Chief of Party for the USAID teams Dr. Orore urged the CECM to organise a meeting with the donor to source for more funds and supplies to help in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The partners present included: AMPATH Plus, AFYA HALISI and Mwendo for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Others were, Afya Ugavi and Impact Malaria.
