COUNTY COMMENCES DISTRIBUTION OF FURNITURE TO ECDE CENTRES

Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), an integral stage in the learning process of any human being, is a function of the devolved units since promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.

The County Government of Kakamega has since stepped up her quest to promote access to quality and relevant training for the learners. To realize this, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology rolled out free ECDE education where every child is entitled to a capitation of Ksh 1,000 a factor that has resulted in a steady increment in enrolment of the learners in public ECDE Centres from 3,055 in 2013 to 124,000 in 2021.

Speaking during the launch of Kakamega County ECDE furniture distribution programme at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega Governor H.E DR. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya said infrastructure development for the learners is a key priority of the Government with an aim of enhancing their participation and providing a conducive learning environment for the learners.

“The County Government identified specific County Polytechnics to produce furniture for all the ECDE Centers across the County; through this programme, the Polytechnics will become financially stable alongside providing opportunities to learners to put in practice skills learnt from the institutions,” Governor Oparanya said.

The County has employed 1901 ECDE teachers and is in the process of developing a Scheme of Service that will improve their remuneration.

The event was also attended by the Chairperson of the Education Committee at the County Assembly Hon. Dickson Ombayo, CECMs, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Madam Jacinta Aluoch Odhiambo, Chief Officers, Directors and other senior Government staff.
