KAKAMEGA COMMISSIONS A NEW ICU UNIT

Kakamega County Government has commissioned a new ICU unit, at the County General Hospital, bringing the total number of state-of-the-art lCU beds at the facility to 19. Additionally, the County has launched the Kakamega County Health Facilities Fund to guarantee a steady, regular and predictable source of funding for operations of health facilities across the County.

In his remarks Tuesday, after commissioning the unit, Kakamega Governor H.E Hon. DR. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya reiterated his committment to actualise his vision and mission of enhancing quality services in health facilities across the County. The ICU unit, the Governor revealed, cost the County Government over Kshs 130 million adding that the facility will go a long way in meeting the arising challenges especially with the upsurge of patients in need of ICU care due to the Covid-19 disease.

“To supplement operations of this facility, we are soon installing a Ksh 93 million Oxygen plant that will ensure the County is oxygen sufficient and capable of supplying the essential commodity to the neighbouring counties,” he said. The oxygen plant, he said, has a capacity of producing 1000 litres of oxygen per hour.

The County Health Facilities Fund on the other hand, the Governor observed, will ensure that money generated by Health facilities is ploughed back to them to enhance quality and expanded services to the people. He called on the Committee mandated to manage the Fund to submit timely reports to the County Treasury and utilize the funds and other resources efficiently so as to provide quality services to Wananchi.

“If properly implemented, this kitty will address the many challenges experienced by facilities and in turn stimulate increased revenue collection by health facilities,” he added.

The event was attended by senior County Government executives and other key partners.
