AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT INSPECTS SHOWGROUND AHEAD OF 2025 KAKAMEGA AGRICULTURAL SHOW
The Department of Agriculture, led by Chief Officers Mr Emmanuel Kariuki (Agriculture) and Ms Jessica Wesonga (Livestock), today conducted an inspection of the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) showground in preparation for the 2025 Kakamega Agricultural Show, set to begin this Wednesday.
During the visit, the Chief Officers reviewed the preparedness of various county exhibits, including those from the Fisheries Department, Livestock Units, poultry farming displays, goat pen constructions, maize demonstration plots, irrigation system setups, and vegetable and fodder farming sections, among others.
Following the inspection, Ms Wesonga visited the Kakamega Fish Farm to assess its condition ahead of its official rehabilitation launch in partnership with Aquarech. The initiative seeks to empower 50 youth from Kakamega County with fish mongering skills and provide each with a capital boost of Ksh. 50,000, in line with H.E Governor Fernandes Barasaโs Wealth Creation Pillar.
In addition, Aquarech will identify and train 60 youthโone from each wardโin fish farming. These trained farmers will supply fish to the selected fish mongers, establishing a sustainable aquaculture value chain within the county.
