COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF KAKAMEGA STRENGTHENS SUPPORT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

This morning, CECM for Social Services, Youth, Sports, Gender, Culture and Library Services, Ms. Jackline Masicha received a consignment of wheelchairs from BethanyKids, a humanitarian organization committed to providing medical care, rehabilitation, and assistive support to children and individuals living with disabilities.
The donation underscores the growing collaboration between the County Government of Kakamega and development partners under a Public- Private Partnership (PPP) approach championed by H.E. FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa. Through such partnerships, the county continues to advance its social development agenda by promoting dignity, inclusion, and improved mobility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), ensuring they are fully integrated into community life.
Speaking while receiving the consignment, Ms. Masicha reaffirmed the county governmentโ€™s commitment to strengthening support for vulnerable groups through strategic partnerships. She noted that assistive devices play a critical role in restoring independence, enhancing mobility, and improving the overall quality of life for persons living with disabilities.
Governor Barasaโ€™s administration has consistently prioritized the welfare of vulnerable groups, with targeted interventions aimed at enhancing access to assistive devices and social protection services. On 3rd December last year, during the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Governor presided over the distribution of assistive devices worth Kshs. 15 million to beneficiaries drawn from across the county, marking a significant milestone in the countyโ€™s commitment to disability inclusion.
The newly received wheelchairs will be distributed next month to identified beneficiaries across various sub-counties, further strengthening ongoing efforts to improve independence, accessibility, and quality of life for persons living with disabilities.
Ms. Masicha was accompanied by Director of Social Services and Culture Ms. Gaudencia Otipa alongside other officers
