COUNTY HOLDS CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH PRINCIPALS

Kakamega County’s Department of Education, Science and Technology on Tuesday 17th January, 2023 held a consultative meeting with all Principals of County Polytechnics at the Kakamega County Polytechnic.

In his speech, the in-charge County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Mr Godfrey Owori advised the Principals to inculcate productive skills into the students keeping in mind that the institutions are key in realization of H.E Governor Fernandes Barasa’s manifesto on improved standards of the devolved education function.

The County Government has equipped Polytechnics to offer various courses among them building and masonry, plumbing, catering and hair dressing.

He assured that the institutions will receive capitation from the County Government and encouraged Heads of the institutions to engage in income generating activities as a way of motivating the learners in addition to creating their own income as training institutions.

Chief Officer Madam Leah Khasandi instructed the Principals to embrace Performance Contracting (PC) Management tool; further calling on them to cascade the same to their subordinates so as to enhance productivity. The CO also asked the Officers to nurture the culture of proper planning and accountability in their respective institutions.

Head of County Treasury CPA Herman Dennis Lusuli enlightened the Principals on the need for adherence to the Public Finance Management Act 2012 and reminded them to follow the right procedures in delivering quality services to the public as stipulated in the Constitution.
