COUNTY, KELCOP HAND OVER BOREHOLE CONSTRUCTION SITES IN SHINYALU AND LUGARI
The County Government of Kakamega, through the IFAD funded Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP) on Tuesday handed over two water borehole drilling projects to contractors in Isukha Central and …… Wards in Shinyalu and Lugari sub-counties respectively.
The works entail drilling and equipping of the boreholes, installation of a 6-metre-high steel water tower & a 43,000 litre steel tank, construction of a water kiosk, an ablution block, two cattle troughs, solar power installation, as well as planting of environment-friendly trees.
Speaking during the handover exercise, Chief Officer for Livestock and Fisheries Mr. Oscar Odunga said the projects cost over Ksh 20.6 million and directed the contractor to prioritize hiring unskilled labour from the local communities to ensure residents benefit from employment and business opportunities in line with Governor Fernandes Barasaβs wealth creation agenda.
The KeLCoP team, led by Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Mr. Kiema Mwandia reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the County Government of Kakamega in supervising the projects to ensure completion within the stipulated four-month period.
