COUNTY PARTNERS WITH SIGHTSAVERS TO BOOST VISION CARE IN SCHOOLS
The County Government of Kakamega has partnered with Sightsavers to train primary school teachers in digital detection of eye conditions, advancing H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasaβs Quality Health Care and Quality Education agenda.
Teachers from Mumias West Sub-County have been equipped with smartphones installed with a specialised eye screening application to assess learnersβ visual health. The digital tool facilitates early detection of eye conditions and enables structured referral of suspected cases to Kakamega County General Hospital for comprehensive assessment and timely treatment.
Representing the Governor, County Disability Mainstreaming Coordinator Dr. Faith Owour stated the Countyβs commitment to inclusive and accessible eye health services. She noted that collaboration with Sightsavers has expanded access to subsidised prescription glasses at the County General Hospital, reducing financial strain on affected families.
The Sightsavers delegation, led by Mrs. Dorothy Yator, assured their commitment to sustained partnership on community-based eye care interventions and long-term visual health outcomes for learners across the county.
