COUNTY SIGNS MoU TO ENHANCE ECD & VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
TheΒ County Government of KakamegaΒ has today entered into a partnership with Bukura Agricultural College (BAC) and the Kenya Literature Bereau (KLB) to offer enhanced and certified training programmes for learners in the Early Childhood Development centres (ECD) and theΒ CountyΒ Polytechnics.
In the partnership, KLB will provide the relevant instructional materials such as learners books and teachers guides and also supplyΒ the materials to all ECD centres andΒ CountyΒ Polytechnics across theΒ countyΒ for effective and quality learning as well as build capacity for the institutions. Bukura Agricultural College on the other hand will undertake assessment and certificationΒ ofΒ the students under the Agricultural Technical & Vocational Education training (ATVET) programmes offered in theΒ CountyΒ Polytechnics.
ATVET equips learners and farmers with skills to improve both Livestock Production and crop farming. A total 600 ATVET graduates from the 12 sub counties, 50 per subΒ county, will be assessed and handed certificates upon completionΒ ofΒ their 6 months training.
CECM for Education, Science & Technology Joseph Indire said enrolmentΒ oflearners in both ECD centres andΒ countyΒ Polytechnics has increased due to the qualityΒ ofΒ education and training programmes offered in the institutions.CountyΒ Secretary Madam Jacinta Aluoch Odhiambo who graced the event said theΒ county government of KakamegaΒ has created a conducive environment for institutions and businesses to operate in theΒ county. She said theΒ government, which she also serves as the headΒ ofΒ public service, has prioritized empowermentΒ ofΒ farmers with the relevant technical skills to create and encourage self employment.
Also in attendance were Chief Officers Dr. Irene AshioyaΒ ofΒ Education, Science and Technology and her counterparts at the Livestock Production, Veterinary services and Fisheries and Agriculture and Livestock dockets Dr. Kelly Nelima & Mr. Jeremiah Namunyu respectively, Bukura Agricultural Training College Principal Dr. Richard Wekesa and the Kenya Literature Bereau Business Development manager Evans Toto among others.
