DEPARTMENT OF WATER COMMENCES REHABILITATION OF MWIYENGA WATER PROJECT.

The Department of Water has officially commenced the rehabilitation of Mwiyenga Water Project in Butsotso South, marking a significant step towards improving water access in the area.
Earlier today, the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Ms. Peninah Mukabane, led the department in conducting a site handover to the contractor at Mwiyenga Primary School, paving the way for the implementation phase of the project.
The scope of works for the rehabilitation includes the procurement of HDPE pipes and fittings, excavation, and pipe laying. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance reliable access to clean and safe water for the Mwiyenga community, in line with Governor Barasa’s water and sanitation agenda.
Speaking during the handover, Ms. Mukabane sensitized and trained members of the project committee on operational and management aspects to ensure sustainability of the project.
She urged them to take collective responsibility in overseeing its implementation and to remain proactive in safeguarding continuous water supply to residents.
She also reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to delivering transformative, project-based development initiatives across the region.
The site handover was attended by the area MCA, Hon. Gildon Shioso, Director for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Fred Atwa, the Sub-County Administrator, Ward Administrator, and members of the project committee, who expressed optimism and gratitude, noting that the project will greatly benefit the community upon completion
