EXPANSION DISCOURSE OF KAKAMEGA AIRSTRIP TAKES SHAPE

The County Government of Kakamega has stepped up the discourse to have Kakamega Airstrip expanded and upgraded to a fully fledged Airport.

On Friday the County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr Bonface Okoth, representing the County Government, hosted Kakamega Senator Hon. Dr Boni Khalwale together with representatives of residents who will be affected by the expansion; to listen their concerns.

The County Secretary said the process is being handled cautiously to ensure fairness to all the affected individuals and assured that anyone with complaints will be given time to submit their concerns.

The final and comprehensive report, the CS revealed, will encompass valuation of residents houses, trees, crops and other properties falling within 700 metres by 500 metres distance from the facility.

Responding to one of the residents, Senator Khalwale who represented elected leaders explained that the Government will relocate and reconstruct all affected amenities and institutions. He also assured land and property owners who will be affected that compensation for the deserving cases will be fair.

Currently the Airstrip has a 1.3 kilometres runway and accommodates both cargo and passenger aircraft.
