GOVERNOR BARASA HAILS WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AS A DRIVER OF DEVELOPMENT.
H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa this morning joined other leaders led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, during a women’s economic empowerment programme held at Ikonyero Secondary School in Lurambi Sub-county.
The Governor said the County Government remains committed to empowering women, youth and persons with disabilities through programmes that improve household incomes and promote inclusive development. He noted that the empowerment initiative complements the County Government’s social grants programme, adding that another phase of disbursement to beneficiary groups will commence in the coming months.
Governor Barasa said the close collaboration between the County Government and the National Government continues to accelerate the implementation of key development projects across Kakamega County. He cited the construction of modern markets, expansion of the road network, the ongoing construction of Bukhungu Stadium, completion of Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital, and the establishment of the Likuyani Industrial Park as among the projects transforming livelihoods, improving service delivery and creating employment opportunities.
The Governor urged the people of the Mulembe Nation to remain united and continue supporting development initiatives for the benefit of the region. He called on leaders and residents to uphold peace, unity and harmonious coexistence as the county continues to pursue its development agenda.
The programme was also attended by President William Ruto’s aide, Mr. Farouk Kibet, Members of Parliament led by Lurambi MP Hon. Bishop Titus Khamala, and other national and county leaders.
