GOVERNOR BARASA JOINS NATIONAL LEADERS IN BODA BODA EMPOWERMENT DRIVE IN MATUNGU.
The boda boda sector is one of the biggest sources of employment for young people and plays an important role in supporting businesses and connecting communities through affordable transport services. In recognition of its contribution to the economy, Governor H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today joined national and local leaders at the Boda Boda Empowerment Programme held at Eshiembekho Grounds in Mayoni Ward, Matungu Constituency.
Addressing riders and residents, Governor Barasa said his administration will continue supporting boda boda operators through programmes that improve their livelihoods and create more economic opportunities. He noted that the County Government has constructed boda boda sheds, supported organised groups through social grant programmes, and rolled out other initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector.
The Governor also highlighted key development projects being implemented in Matungu Sub-County, including the completion of the maternity wing at Matungu Level Four Hospital, ongoing road improvement works, expansion of water supply infrastructure, and other projects aimed at improving access to essential services.
Governor Barasa said the close working relationship between the County and National Governments has helped fast-track major development projects across Kakamega, including the construction of modern markets, road infrastructure, the ongoing upgrade of Bukhungu Stadium, and the construction of the Kakamega Level Six Hospital.
He also urged eligible residents, especially young people, to register as voters and take part in the country’s democratic processes. The Governor further called on the people of the Mulembe Nation to remain united in supporting development across the region.
The event was led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, and attended by the President’s Aide Mr. Farouk Kibet, Bungoma Governor H.E. Ken Lusaka, Senators, among them the Majority Leader Hon. Aaron Cheruiyot, Members of Parliament hosted by Hon. Peter Oscar Nabulindo, Members of County Assembly led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, and host MCA Hon. Frederick Watitwa.
