GOVERNOR BARASA LEADS MOURNERS IN SEND-OFF OF LATE PRINCIPAL CAROLINE KHAMETE.
H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, today joined family, friends, and residents in the send-off of the late Mrs Caroline Khamete at Mukoyani Primary School in Idakho North Ward, Ikolomani Sub-County.
In his tribute, Governor Barasa eulogized the late Khamete as a selfless, hardworking, disciplined, and virtuous leader whose contribution to education and public service will be dearly missed. He particularly noted her exemplary leadership at Kakamega County Polytechnic, where she served as Principal with distinction.
Despite the solemn occasion of the burial service, the Governor expressed deep concern over unfortunate incidents that disrupted the dignity of the farewell. He regretted that the occasion was exploited through the mobilization of disruptive elements led by the kakamega county Women rep, which undermined what should have been a respectful and honourable send-off.
Governor Barasa strongly condemned the act of hooliganism, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of unity and respect upheld by the people of Kakamega County.
The Governor called upon leaders across the political divide to exercise restraint in their public utterances and to promote peaceful coexistence among residents, emphasizing the need for unity during this period of mourning.
He further urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations into both the disruption and the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Caroline Khamete’s death, assuring the bereaved family and the public of his administration’s commitment to justice and accountability.
Also present were area MP Hon. Benard Shinali, MCAs led by the host Hon. Gladys Omukongolo, Members of the Executive, the teaching fraternity, alongside other leaders.
