Governor Barasa Marks Governorโ€™s Day with Farmers at Bukura ATC

H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa today celebrated the Governorโ€™s Day with Farmers at Bukura Agricultural Training College in Butsotso South Ward, Lurambi Constituencyโ€”a key forum for sharing best farming practices, showcasing innovations, and strengthening dialogue on agricultural development in Kakamega County.

The annual Governorโ€™s Day with Farmers serves as a powerful event for sharing modern farming techniques, showcasing agricultural innovations, and fostering open dialogue between government, farmers, and stakeholders. It reflects Governor Barasaโ€™s vision of an empowered, food-secure county driven by innovation, partnerships, and grassroots engagement.

Addressing thousands of farmers and stakeholders, Governor Barasa outlined his food security roadmap, anchored on sustainable agricultural development.

“We continue to explore ways to improve farmersโ€™ earnings through value addition, introduction of improved crop varieties and livestock breeds, subsidized inputs, and strategic partnerships with development partners. Our aim is to make agriculture a profitable venture for every farmer in Kakamega County,” said the Governor.

Farmers in the maize-growing zones also received good news, as Governor Barasa disclosed that the upcoming construction of the Maize Mill in Lugari Sub-County will not only enhance food processing capacity but also provide a reliable market for over 283,000 farmers benefiting from subsidized fertilizers and certified seeds.

In support of climate resilience and community health, the Governor oversaw the distribution of 250 Buffalo bicycles to Ward Climate Change Committees and Community Health Promoters (CHPs) to improve their mobility and outreach across the county.

Among those present at the event were Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, Deputy Speaker Hon. Benard Shitiabayi, Majority Leader CPA Philip Maina, host MCA Hon. Gildon Shioso; CECM for Agriculture Mr. Mophat Mandela with his Environment counterpart Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, executive delegations from Homa Bay, Siaya, and Bungoma Counties, and Ms. Violet Shivutse, the Global Chair of the Women Movement.
