GOVERNOR BARASA SHOWCASES PROGRESS IN INFRASTRUCTURE AND SOCIAL PROJECTS IN MATUNGU.

This afternoon, H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, engaged residents of Matungu Sub-County, providing an update on his administration’s ongoing and planned development initiatives.
Dr. Barasa highlighted key projects already underway. These include the Ngairwe Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centre, which has been completed and is now in use, the nearly completed Koyonzo Market, and road maintenance covering over 50 kilometres across the Sub-County. He further emphasized his commitment to expanding water access to households through the “Last Mile Water Connectivity” initiative (Amatsi Khumuliango).
Dr. Barasa also announced plans to break ground for a new market worth 150 million in Matungu Sub-County soon. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the area Member of Parliament. The Governor stressed that such initiatives aim to boost local trade, create employment opportunities, and enhance the overall economic well-being of residents.
On social development, Governor Barasa informed residents about the upcoming disbursement of social grants. These grants are designed to empower women, youth, and persons with disabilities. The move is part of his broader agenda to ensure inclusive growth and strengthen community welfare across the County.
The Governor who was speaking in Ngairwe Community, Koyonzo Ward, during the funeral service of the late Justus Harrison Mulwale, conveyed his condolences to the family and residents, and wished them strength in this difficult time. Justus died in an accident while on duty.
The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Executive and other local leaders.
