HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS INDUCTION COMMENCES
All gazetted Hospital Management Committee members from health facilities in Butere Sub-county were inducted during a session opened by the Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Dr. Livingston Imbayi.
In his remarks during the session, Dr. Imbayi thanked the members for accepting their appointments and serving as representatives of their respective health facilities. He urged them to generate innovative ideas that will strengthen facility management and improve healthcare service delivery. On matters of governance, the CECM emphasized the need for committee members to operate strictly within the existing legal framework.
He also encouraged them to motivate and inspire healthcare workers, noting that staff morale is a key pillar in delivering quality health services. Dr. Imbayi conveyed Governor Fernandes Barasa’s sentiments in which he reminded the committee members that they are now part of the County government system and are entrusted with overseeing government operations at the facility level on behalf of the administration.
During the induction session, participants were taken through a summary of the Kakamega County Facility Improvement Fund Act by the County Attorney, Ms. Vivian Mmbaka. They were also briefed on the rationale behind the composition and selection of Hospital Management Committees, including their core functions, roles, and responsibilities.
The induction also covered committee activities and structure, meeting procedures, conflict resolution mechanisms among members, and the relationship between Hospital Management Committees and other health sector structures and systems. Similar exercise will take place in all the twelve subcounties.
Also present were the Chief Officer for Public Health, Ms. Rose Muhanda, directors led by Mr. William Olaka, and other senior county health officials.
