INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY

Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa OGW is driving a bold infrastructure agenda aimed at opening up trade, connecting communities, and making everyday travel easier and safer across Kakamega County. In just the last two years, several key roads have been completed, with many more progressing steadily.
Hereโ€™s a snapshot of the progress so far:
1. Lumakandaโ€“Mwamba Road, Lugari Sub County(7km)โ€“ Fully completed waiting commissioning.
2. Ebukwalaโ€“Khukolomani Road, Khwisero Sub County (3km) โ€“ Completed,awaiting commissioning.
3. Lumakandaโ€“Manyonyi Road, Lugari Sub County (8km) โ€“ 80% complete,
4. Matunguโ€“Ogalo Road, Matungu Sub County (9.3km) -97%complete.
5. Matunguโ€“Khaunga Bridge Road, Matungu Sub County (8km) โ€“ 41% complete
6. Ingotseโ€“Navakholoโ€“Chebuyusi Road, Navakholo Sub County(11.5km)โ€“ 40% complete
7. Emahongoyoโ€“Emang’ala Road, Butere Sub County(1.8km)โ€“65% done
8. Butaliโ€“Malekha Road, Malava Sub County (6km)โ€“ongoing
9. Murramโ€“Shitirira & Malavaโ€“Tumbeni Road, Malava Sub County (7.6km)โ€“ 98% Complete
10. Mumiasโ€“Matawaโ€“Indangalasia Road, Mumias West/Matungu Sub Counties (10km)โ€“45% complete
11. Malahaโ€“Khaunga Bridge Road, Mumias East Sub County(8km)โ€“ 55% complete.
12. Mahiakaloโ€“Nyayo Tea Zoneโ€“Shikulu Market Road, Lurambi Sub County(6.2km) โ€“ 50% progress,
Governor Barasa has also overseen the complete reconstruction of major roads within Kakamega Municipality, greatly improving mobility within the town.
In informal settlements, the second phase of the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP)is ongoing in Amalemba and Kambi Somali (Kakamega), as well as Mjini, Lukoye, and Shibale (Mumias).
To enhance rural connectivity, over 25 bridges and box culverts have been constructed under Governor Barasaโ€™s leadership in areas such as Kasaya, Musingu, Eshirumba, Majengo, Charlikasinde, Namilimo,Shilongo-Rev George-Abura Bridge in the Shivakala community area and many others.
In addition, Governor Barasa has ensured that each of the 60 Wards has received at least 10km of new murram roads, bringing the total to more than 600km of roadwork delivered so far,plus the 5km per ward Road maintenance program that is ongoing.
