KAKAMEGA COUNTY GOVERNOR’S CUP TO KICK OFF ON 2ND SEPTEMBER

The eagerly awaited launch of Kakamega County Governor’s Cup Bonanza that was scheduled for today, 21st, August 2023, has been pushed forward to 2nd September 2023.

Speaking on Monday during a briefing with members of the Fourth Estate at Bukhungu Stadium Kakamega, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela said the postponement was imperative to allow for conclusion of Chapa Dimba tournament as well as the Inter-County games that kicked off in Meru County today where a number of the Governor’s Cup officials are participating.

The CECM also used the platform to congratulate Kakamega teams that participated in the Talanta Hela competitions which ended yesterday where the girls team lifted the main trophy as the boys finished in the first runners up position.

Mr Mandela stated that the objective of the Governor’s Cup is to spot and nurture grassroot talents across the 60 Wards in Kakamega County in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s agenda on Social Development; and reminded sportslovers to brace themselves for a magnificent tournament showcasing Football, Rugby, Volleyball and Netball disciplines. 879 teams have so far registered their participation in Football with many others registering for the other disciplines.

The competitions will start at the Ward level and conclude at the County level with the ultimate grande finale being staged at Bukhungu Stadium on January 1st, 2023.
