KAKAMEGA COUNTY OFFICERS IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR AfCFTA FORUM
The CECM for Agriculture, Liivestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Mr Benjamin Andama and the CEO Kakamega County Investment and Development Agency (KCIDA) Ms Elizabeth Asichi are currently attending the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Forum in South Africa to network on potential investors in Kakamega County especially in Agriculture, Agro-processing trade and investment among other areas focussing on the expansive plan to industrialise the County through agro-industrialization.
The four day forum was officially opened on Sunday by Hon. Ebrahim Patel the Minister for Trade, Industry and Competition Republic of South Africa on behalf of President of South Africa H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa.
President Ramaphosa appreciated efforts being made by African States in achieving the main objective of AfCFTA which is to significantly boost intra-Africa trade, particularly trade in value-added production and trade across all sectors of Africaβs economy.
The AfCFTA Secretariat seeks to lead the transformation of the African Continent through trade by bringing together international business leaders, policy makers, government officials from Africa and other private sector leaders on the continent to learn about opportunities for expansion in investment.
The networking forum seeks to increase the number of development partners and other investors to Kakamega County specifically in areas related to boosting agricultural production, Agro-processing including value addition under the AfCFTA.
The speakers for the event include H.E. Mahamadou Issoufou, Former President of the Republic of Niger & AfCFTA; H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General, AfCFTA Secretariat, Ms. Sanda Ojiambo, Assistant Secretary General, UN Global Compact among key speakers in the event.
