KAKAMEGA COUNTY’S SOCIAL GRANTS TO EMPOWER WOMEN, WIDOWS AND YOUTHS
County Government officers from the Departments of Social Services and Gender visited Lurambi and Ikolomani sub-counties to assess social empowerment groups, including widows, ahead of commissioning of social development grants by Governor Fernandes Barasa. Similar visits will be conducted in all the sub-counties.
During the visit, community groups were encouraged to maintain the spirit of cultural preservation and empowerment, which will help in acknowledging the importance of holding onto traditional practices despite modern settings.
In addition to the social grants, some of the groups will also undergo financial management training to strengthen their economic well-being.
The beneficiaries, mostly women, were also reminded to advocate for gender equality and issues surrounding SGBV.
The county delegation was led by Director Gender and Children services Ms. Joyce Wafukho and her Social Services and Culture counterpart Ms. Gaudencia Otipa
