KAKAMEGA READIES FOR 2023 MUSIC AND CULTURAL FESTS

Performing artists in Kakamega County will this year get a chance to showcase their talents and skills from the Community Area level in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Social Development agenda that focuses on facilitation of events to showcase and open opportunities for Kakamega athletes and artists.

This was revealed on Friday during a preparatory meeting of the Kakamega County Music and Cultural Festival 2023 edition at Mumias Cultural Centre, Mumias West Sub-County; attended by Administrators and artists from different genres.

During the meeting that was graced by the Deputy Director of Administration Mr Cyril Mululu, on behalf of the CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela, Sub-County and Ward Administrators were informed that they will play a crucial role in registration and identification of artists from the Community Area level before participating at the Sub-County music festival competitions which will be succeeded by County competitions.

“Winners in various categories at the County level will be given an opportunity to perform at the Governor’s Gala slated for November 2023 culminating to the 99th edition of the Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals themed *”Our Culture Towards National Cohesion Integration and Peace,”* Mr Mululu explained.

The genres to be showcased are music and dance, ellocutions, poems and theatre performances among others.

This year’s County theme is “Preserving and Celebrating Heritage Through Performing Arts,”
