KAKAMEGA ROLLS OUT COUNTYWIDE LIVESTOCK VACCINATION EXERCISE

The County Government of Kakamega through, the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Services has rolled out a comprehensive vaccination program to safeguard the health of livestock and ultimately boost agricultural productivity in Kakamega County.

According to the Chief Officer for Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services Ms Jessica Wesonga, the exercise that kicked off in Shinyalu Sub-County will be carried out in all the twelve Sub-Counties and targets to protect cattle from anthrax and blackwater while also addressing the prevalence of rabies in dogs.

Ms Wesonga explained that the campaign aligns with the broader goal of enhancing milk production in the County in anticipation to operationalization of Malava Dairy Plant at Tumbeni in Malava Sub-County.

During the flagging off ceremony of assorted consignment at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), Kakamega, the Chief Officer who was flanked by the Director Veterinary Services Dr. Christopher Kadenge asserted that food security is critical to the realisation of H.E Governor Fernandes Barasa’s development agenda in line with the Food Security pillar of his Manifesto and implored residents to avail their animals for the important phased programme.
