MEMBERS OF COUNTY ASSEMBLY SENSITIZED ON THE NEW COUNTY REVENUE SYSTEM
Information, Communication Technology (ICT) plays a fundamental role in revenue management and collection; a priority of H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration.
On Monday a team from the Ministry of ICT, E-government and Communication sensitized Members of County Assembly’s Committee of ICT, E-government, Library Services and Communication on the new Revenue Collection and Management System, ICT, Communication and E-Waste Management Policies as well as E-government Standards.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for ICT, E-government and Communication Ms Rachael C. Atamba, who led the Executive team from the Department’s of ICT and Communication, stated that as an enabler Ministry, her departments are establishing policies to ensure Kakamega County achieves or surpasses her KES 2.2 Billion projected revenue target this Financial Year as the County Government builds up towards improving own source revenue to reduce overreliance on the Exchequer. Kakamega County has a potential of collecting KES 5 Billion.
Ms Atamba further noted that to support the initiative by the ICT Unit, Communication Unit will also play a fundamental role in informing members of the public and other stakeholders about the policies, programmes and projects of the County Government of Kakamega under the able leadership of H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa to ensure the information reaches them in a timely manner and precisely.
Chairperson of the ICT, E-government, Library Services and Communication at the County Assembly Hon. Eddy Obwaka asked the Government in partnership with the service provider to hold more capacity building forums for key stakeholders aimed at addressing challenges that may arise from lack of information and promised to support the Ministry in discharging it’s mandate as stipulated.
Mr Joseph Lutilo the Chief Officer for E-government and Communication moderated the sessions that saw members taken through detailed presentations on ICT Policy by the Director of ICT and E-government Mr. Samuel Wetungu as well as the Intergrated Revenue Collection and Management System.
