REVENUE STAFF CHALLENGED TO EXCEED SET TARGETS

Revenue staff in Kakamega County have been urged to embrace technology and strengthen client relations to help achieve the County’s Ksh 2.2 billion revenue target by the end of the current financial year.

Speaking during a quarterly review forum, Kakamega County Revenue Agency (KCRA) Board Chairperson Dr. Martin Mudamba emphasized the importance of leveraging on modern technology to streamline operations, enhance revenue tracking and improve overall efficiency in the collection processes. He also stressed the need for transparency, accountability and a customer-friendly approach as key enablers of successful revenue generation.

Dr. Mudamba advised the officers to improve relationships with the Agency’s customers, crucial in cultivating a supportive and responsive service culture; to create a conducive environment for revenue collection. He urged staff to work collaboratively, meet individual and collective targets and uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

Chief Revenue Administrator (CRA) Eng. Joseck Maloba on his part highlighted Governor Fernandes Barasa’s recent extension of a one-month, 100 per cent waiver on all penalties and interest for rateable properties and single business permits. He described the waiver as a strategy aimed at encouraging compliance and boosting collections. He directed officers to effect the Governor’s orders promptly.

Eng. Maloba also pointed to the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) implemented by KCRA as a performance-driven approach that should inform the mapping and targeting of various revenue streams to maximize potential. He encouraged a competitive and data-driven allocation of targets to different teams.

The forum, attended by all KCRA Board members and revenue senior officers, also discussed a range of strategies aimed at increasing own-source revenue. Key among them are the retention of a skilled workforce, enhancement of governance frameworks, improvement of institutional efficiency and the establishment of robust feedback mechanisms from field officers to inform policy and operational decisions.
