SAVONNA PROJECT TO END KAKAMEGAโ€™S PERENNIAL WATER RATIONING

The official launch of Phase Three of the Savona Water Project in Lurambi Sub-county marks a major milestone in the realization of Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasaโ€™s clarion call for โ€œAmatsi Khumuliangoโ€ โ€” Water at the Doorstep. This phase aims to tackle the persistent water shortages in Kakamega Municipality by connecting the Savona plant to the Milimani reservoir, thereby ensuring last-mile water access to thousands of households.

Implemented by the Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, the project is a collaborative effort between the County Government of Kakamega and the World Bank under the FLLoCA Program. Once complete, it will boost Kakamegaโ€™s daily water supply by an additional 6 million litres โ€” building on the success of earlier phases that focused on rehabilitating the plant and introducing solar-powered systems.

Residents of Shieywe, Butsotso Central, Mahiakalo, and Shirere wards stand to benefit from this transformative initiative. Governor Barasa remains steadfast in his commitment to delivering sustainable water solutions that improve livelihoods, promote public health, and build resilient communities across Kakamega County.
