H.E. Dr. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, OGW, presided over the swearing-in of members of the Municipal Boards for Butere, Malava and Matunda, strengthening the County Government’s efforts to improve urban governance, planning and service delivery in the three municipalities.

The ceremony, held today at Bukhungu Stadium, marks another step towards ensuring that residents benefit from better planned urban centres, improved local services and increased opportunities for economic activity. The Boards will provide leadership in the management and development of the three municipalities while working closely with residents and county departments to address local priorities.

Butere, Matunda and Malava were granted Municipal Charters on October 14, 2024, through Gazette Notices Nos. 13185, 13186 and 13187 respectively. Their establishment is part of the County Government’s broader efforts to strengthen urban planning, support local businesses and economic activities, and bring essential services closer to residents.

The newly commissioned Boards will oversee key areas including urban planning, delivery of local services, management of municipal assets and implementation of development programmes. They will also engage residents in identifying priorities and ensuring that the community needs inform development and service delivery.

Governor Barasa urged the Board Members to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities. He congratulated them on their appointment and called on them to work closely with residents and the County Government to promote orderly urban development and improve service delivery.

The ceremony was attended by Members of the County Assembly led by Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina, members of the County Executive led by County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Lawrence Omuhaka, County Attorney CS Vivianne Mmbaka, and the host CECM Godfrey Owori, among other officials and members of the public.
