Today, His Excellency Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa attended a Council of Governors (COG) meeting on Lands, Housing and Urban Development. The meeting focused on the progress of housing and urban development programs, with special attention on the Affordable Housing Program, land management, and urban growth plans under the Kenya Urban Support Program Phase II (KUSP II).

The meeting also adopted key policy tools, including a Model Policy and Bill for Financing Cities, guidelines on managing staff in municipalities, and a framework to bring in private sector players. These tools are meant to help counties improve governance, access more resources, and strengthen partnerships to speed up housing and urban development.

COG resolved that County Governments should be the main agencies to implement Affordable Housing projects under the Affordable Housing Board. It was further agreed that counties will be involved in preparing the national five-year and annual investment plans, while allocations to county housing committees will be increased to at least five percent to strengthen their role in delivering the program.
