H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa inspected the ongoing construction of the second and third phases of Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium, thanks to a partnership between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government. This development is in preparation for upcoming national and international events.
The upgrade includes a complete overhaul of the playing pitch which is being resurfaced with modern, climate-resilient, easily draining, and highly durable grass. The process involves excavating the pitch to a depth of 650mm, installing a sub-base, and placing perforated drainage pipes at 5-meter intervals to channel rainwater. An irrigation system will be introduced to maintain the pitch during dry conditions.
Construction is also ongoing in the right 10,000-capacity C-section which includes a total overhaul of the playing surface; sitting areas; ablutions; media tribune; changing rooms for players, referees and VIP officials, among other executive units.
