The Aquaculture Business Development Program (ABDP) has completed a series of training sessions across three regions for aquaculture groups set to benefit from its Ksh 18 million grant initiative.

These trainings were designed to ensure participants comply with project guidelines and operate effectively to guarantee the program’s success.

Through a competitive proposal process, ABDP has awarded grants to 27 fish farming groups in the county. Among them, 25 are Aquaculture Support Enterprisesβ€”youth-led groups of 5 to 10 membersβ€”each receiving Ksh 450,000 to engage in fish marketing, value addition, running fish eateries, and applying new technologies to support farmers.

The remaining two groups, classified as Small Aquaculture Groups, focus on enhancing fish production and will each receive Ksh 660,000. Additionally, 51 aquaculture field schools are set to be granted Ksh 100,000 each.

Running until June 30, 2026, the initiative aims to tackle fish marketing challenges and significantly boost the aquaculture sector, aligning with Governor Barasa’s goals for food security and wealth creation.
