The Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games roared to life today with a spectacular opening ceremony at the iconic Bukhungu International Stadium, Kakamega. The stadium was filled to capacity, with thousands of spectators creating an electric atmosphere as the week-long continental sporting event kicked off.

The home fans were treated to early glory as Musingu Boys (The Scorpions) edged out Tanzania’s Kizuka Secondary School 1–0 in a thrilling football clash. The victory not only ignited the stands but also set the tone for what promises to be an action-packed week of competition.

The ceremony was presided over by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba Migos, representing President Dr. William Ruto. In his address, the CS lauded the games as a platform that not only nurtures sporting talent but also strengthens unity and cultural exchange among East African nations. “Sports build bridges between nations and shape character through discipline, hard work, and fair play — values that extend far beyond the playing field,” said CS Ogamba, urging athletes to compete with integrity and determination.

Kakamega County Deputy Governor Hon. Ayub Savula, speaking on behalf of Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa, welcomed all the teams, officials, and guests to Kakamega, assuring them of the county’s warm hospitality and unwavering support during the tournament.

Also gracing the colourful event were the Senator, MCAs, County Executives led by CECM for Sports CPA Jackline Masicha, FEASSSA President Mr. Justus Mugisha, and dignitaries from across the East African region.

The FEASSSA Games will run throughout the week, featuring top secondary school participants competing in athletics, football, basketball, rugby, netball, among other disciplines, with Kakamega proudly standing tall as the cathedral of sports in East Africa.
