𝐆𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐀 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐉𝐎𝐑 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏.

H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW., today hosted delegations from the M-PESA Foundation, led by Lead Health Ms. Dorothy Koech, and AMREF, led by Programme Manager Mr. John Kutna, at the County Headquarters to advance a partnership focused on strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare across Kakamega County.

Through the partnership, the County Government of Kakamega, M-PESA Foundation and AMREF will support the construction and equipping of modern maternal and neonatal health facilities designed to improve the quality, safety and accessibility of care for mothers and newborns.

The partnership will begin with the construction of a 60-bed maternity wing at Navakholo Level 4 Hospital, with groundbreaking scheduled for October. It will also support the establishment of a modern newborn unit at Kakamega County General Hospital and the construction of a new maternity wing at Iguhu Level 4 Hospital.

The facilities will expand the County’s capacity to provide quality maternal and newborn services, create better environments for safe deliveries and ensure newborns requiring specialised care can access appropriate services within the County.

The partnership reflects Governor Barasa’s commitment to working with development and private-sector partners to strengthen the health system and bring quality healthcare closer to residents. For mothers and children across Kakamega, the investment will mean safer, better-equipped facilities and improved access to essential maternal and newborn care closer to home.
