𝐆𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐀 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐊𝐒𝐡. 𝟒 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝟖𝟎 𝐌𝐔𝐌𝐈𝐀𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐏𝐒.

Kakamega Governor H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today presided over the disbursement of KSh. 4 million in Social Protection Grants to 80 groups from the four wards of Mumias West Sub-County.

The disbursement, held at Topa Market in Wang’nyang, will benefit groups comprising women, youth, persons with disabilities, widows and other vulnerable members of the community. Each of the four wards; Etenje, Musanda, Mumias Central and Mumias North, received KSh. 1 million to support 20 groups.

Speaking during the event, Governor Barasa urged beneficiaries to invest the funds in productive ventures that generate income, strengthen their enterprises and improve household livelihoods.

The disbursement is part of the KSh. 60 million Social Protection Grants Programme targeting 1,200 groups across Kakamega County’s 60 wards. With Mumias West having received its allocation, only Malava and Ikolomani Sub-Counties remain to conclude the programme for the current cycle.

Governor Barasa also highlighted key development projects being implemented in Mumias West, including the ongoing upgrading of the Mumias–Matawa–Indangalasia Road to bitumen standards, construction of the Bukaya Maternity Ward, Lukongo and Nyapora Health Centres, development of ECDE facilities and Bungasi Market, as well as interventions in Agriculture, Water and other sectors.

The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina and area MCA Hon. Eddie Obwaka, Members of the County Executive Committee led by CECM for Social Services CPA Jackline Masicha, National and County Government officials, and other local leaders.
