Her Excellency First Lady Prof Janet Kassilly Barasa has this evening graced the Mr & Mrs Utamaduni LREB 2025 event at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), held under the theme β€œCelebrating Our Diversity While Promoting Environmentally Friendly Fashion and Sustainable Cultural Practices.”
The First Lady applauded the organizers for creating a platform where members of society can showcase their creativity while promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness. She emphasized the need to connect culture and climate, noting that traditional values teach respect for nature, moderation, and harmony with the environment.
Prof. Barasa encouraged members of society to embrace eco-friendly materials, recycled fabrics, and locally made attire as a way of preserving both cultural identity and the planet. She further called on the participants to use art, music, and fashion as tools for environmental advocacy and cultural pride, urging them to become ambassadors of sustainability.
The event, a side activity to the ongoing LREB Climate Summit and Agri-Expo, showcased fashion, music, and cultural expressions promoting green living and responsible cultural practices.
Also, in attendance were Miss International Kenya Ms Muthoni Karuiki, Mini Miss Africa-2025, MCAs, CECMs led by Ms Jackline Masicha (Social Services, Gender, Culture and Sports) and Ms Peninah Mukabane (Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change), County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr Lawrence Omuhaka, Chief Officers, Advisors among other climate change and fashion & culture enthusiasts.
