𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

This morning, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa chaired the 29th Cabinet Meeting of Kakamega County—the first for the newly appointed CECMs—in line with Section 41 of the County Governments Act, 2012. It marks an important administrative milestone in our journey of transformation, focused on fast-tracking key resolutions to enhance service delivery, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of development priorities centered on our County Integrated Development Plan.

Across every corner of Kakamega, Governor Barasa’s six-point agenda is taking root and changing lives. From the current maintenance of 5 km of roads per ward—after successfully completing 600 km of roads across the county—to ongoing bitumen roads and the construction of bridges that are opening up rural access, and the distribution of free farm inputs for food security—including the planned top-dressing fertilizer delivery in May—our communities are seeing real results.

Governor Barasa is also bridging the water access gap through Amatsi Khumuliango, the last-mile water connectivity programme that is linking rural households to clean and safe water.

In health, the Governor recently oversaw the distribution of essential drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth Ksh. 50 million to all Level 2 and 3 health facilities—a follow-up initiative to the initial supply of health commodities worth over Ksh. 400 million across the county. This is further complemented by financial independence for health facilities through the launched FIF fund and the Barasa Care program, which is enhancing maternal care and easing access to quality health services for all registered mothers and infants.

Our children’s future is secured through the construction of over 60 new ECDE centres, and access to education is being widened courtesy of a Ksh. 180 million bursary and scholarship fund set for disbursement.

To empower communities economically, Governor Barasa has prioritized the construction of modern boda boda sheds and markets for small-scale traders, creating safe, dignified, and structured workspaces.

Further, the second cohort of social protection grants to 20 groups per ward is being rolled out—empowering women, youth, and persons with disabilities—each receiving Ksh. 50,000 to support grassroots development.

These projects, among others, reflect a leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. This transformation is driven by focus, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Kakamega County.
