𝑲𝑨𝑲𝑨𝑴𝑬𝑮𝑨 𝑪𝑶𝑼𝑵𝑻𝒀 𝑩𝑶𝑺𝑺 𝑭𝑪𝑷𝑨 𝑩𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑺𝑨 𝑳𝑬𝑨𝑫𝑺 𝑫𝑬𝑽𝑬𝑳𝑶𝑷𝑴𝑬𝑵𝑻 𝑫𝑰𝑺𝑪𝑼𝑺𝑺𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑺 𝑾𝑰𝑻𝑯 𝑷𝑹𝑬𝑺𝑰𝑫𝑬𝑵𝑻 𝑹𝑼𝑻𝑶.

Leaders from Kakamega County convened at State House, Nairobi, this morning to engage with H.E President William Ruto on the county’s development agenda.

The leaders committed to unite and advocate with one voice for the development interests of Kakamega people.

They addressed six key issues in their discussions, as follows:

  1. MUMIAS SUGAR COMPANY:
  • A lasting solution was agreed upon to ensure sustainable operations to ensure improved livelihoods for farmers and the people of Kakamega County.
  • The National Government is addressing the significant debt burden of the miller which stands at KSh. 33billion.
  • The factory is set to resume operations on December 1st.
  1. COMPLETION OF BUKHUNGU INTERNATIONAL STADIUM:

Collaboration between the National and County governments will establish a completion framework for the facility, ensuring immediate investment to meet international standards for hosting CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027.

  1. KAKAMEGA LEVEL 6 TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL:
  • Both levels of government will jointly ensure that the 750-bed capacity hospital is completed, equipped and operationalized for the benefit of the region.
  • The National government will provide initial capital for leasing equipment.
  1. KAKAMEGA AIRPORT:
    The National government shall consider allocating 300 acres of Shikusa Prisons land to Kenya Airports Authority and therefore relocate the Airport project, subject to professional advice from relevant bodies including KCAA and NEMA.
  2. MINING SECTOR
    The President directed for the fast-tracking of the legal processes to ensure operationalization of the Gold Refinery project in Ikolomani within the shortest time possible.
  3. ENERGY
  • They agreed that they will increase penetration and coverage of electricity of all Constituencies in the County through three major programmes: Transformer maximization, Affirmative Action and Social Programmes.
  • Consequently, the leadership will work closely with the Ministry of Energy to actualize the electricity penetration across the County to over 90%.

Leaders present include: Hon. Dr. Boni Khalwale (Senator), Hon. Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Hon. Johnson Naicca (Mumias West), Hon. Christopher Aseka (Khwisero), Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Hon. Tindi Mwale (Butere), Hon. Titus Khamala (Lurambi), Hon. Nabii Nabwera (Lugari), Hon. Innocent Mugabe (Likuyani) and Hon. Fred Ikana (Shinyalu).
