UMRI FC LIFTS INAUGRAL KAKAMEGA GOVERNOR’S CUP

Umri Football Club from Mumias West Sub-County are the champions of the first edition of Kakamega County Governor’s Football Bonanza, 2022. The victors edged out an industrious Lirhembe Arsenal from Ikolomani Sub-County by two goals to one in a thrilling final played at a filled to capacity Mumias Sports Complex, Mumias, and graced by Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa.

Mwira Ladies beat Lugari Progressive 2-1 in the ladies finals while the men’s third and fourth playoffs between Solofa and Nangili ended 4-1 in favour of Nangili. Misango Queens thrashed Isulu Starlets 2-1 in the ladies third position playoff.

Governor Barasa, a passionate football fanatic, congratulated the sportsmen and women who competed in the tournament themed; “Identifying and Nurturing talents” for their dedication and passion, saying sports development is a priority of his Government.

The Governor announced that the 2023 edition of the Bonanza will commence at the ward Level in October with the finals being staged at Bukhungu Stadium in December; he invited sponsors to support the initiative aimed at developing grassroot talents in the County.

Earlier in the day the County CEO together with the First Lady H.E Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa attended the New Year holy mass at St. James Bulimbo Catholic church in Matungu where the Governor wished County residents a blessed and prosperous year 2023.
