CONTRACTORS COMMENDED FOR TIMELY COMPLETION OF PROJECTS

In readiness for the official commissioning of various projects in Kakamega, County Executives have stepped up routine inspection, monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure within Kakamega and Mumias Municipalities.

The CECM for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning Peninah Mukabane inspected Mumias Bus Park and Economic Stimulus Market to check on their status as the County seeks to boost trade in the two municipalities.

In Kakamega, the Chief Officer for Urban Areas and Physical Planning Mr Patrick Butichi on Monday toured several projects and commended contractors working on two roads within Kakamega Municipality for fastracking their upgrade from all weather to bitumen standards within the agreed timelines.

Tarmacked roads ready for commissioning include Bukhungu-Milimani and Masinde Muliro School of Nursing-Ambwere Junction roads.

The CO further revealed that H.E Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration will collaborate with Kenya Power and Lighting Company to install street lights along the roads to boost both security and business activities.

H.E the Governor is soon expected to commission completed projects in Lurambi Sub-County. On going projects in Kakamega Municipality include Sichirai Market which is at 88 percent construction and expected to benefit over 1200 traders once operational and Masingo Market which is at 80 percent complete and expected to host a total of 700 traders.

Mr Butichi further assured traders that the relevant County Government offices will distribute stalls in the facilities without discrimination and cautioned the allocation Committee to follow the right procedures as guided by the Urban and Cities Act. He urged traders to apply for the County low interest loans advanced by the Kakamega Microfinance Agency to boost their businesses.

The County will constitute Committees to run the facilities.
