FARMERS RECEIVE FINGERLINGS FROM THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT
Seven Hundred and Fifty Five (755) registered fish farmers in Kakamega County will each receive 1000 fingerlings from (the partnership of) the County Government of Kakamega and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
On Friday H.E. the Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa handed over 73,000 fingerlings to 73 farmers of Malava Sub-County where he mentioned that the initiative is aimed at advancing fish farming with view to enhancing food security and creating wealth amongst residents, being two of his six pillars for the people of Kakamega County.
In addition to the fingerlings, each farmer will also receive 8 bags of assorted fish feeds.
The County boss announced that his Government procured fish feeds worth KES 10 Million this Financial Year 2022/23 and encouraged farmers to purchase the feeds which will retail at a subsidized price of 50 percent.
Kakamega is among the 7 Counties implementing the IFAD Programme in Western region. Others are Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Homabay and Busia.
Governor Barasa also presided over distribution of subsidized farm inputs for Malava, Lugari and Likuyani bringing to 9 the total number of Sub-Counties that he has officially issued the fertiliser and assorted maize seeds.
Mumias East, Mumias West and Matungu Sub-Counties are set to receive their allocation on Monday next week.
