KAKAMEGA CENTRAL YOUTH TURN UP FOR KYISA SELECTION

Fourty Seven (47) youths from the Central region of Kakamega County were on Saturday 4th March 2023 selected to this year’s Kakamega County Kenya Intercounties Youth Sports Association (KYISA) games provisional squad in soccer and volleyball disciplines during trials held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) grounds.

Chief Officer for Sports, Youth and Library Services Mr Joseph Abucheri who represented his CECM Mr Mophat Mandela during the exercise, flanked by the County Director for Sports Mr James Muchiri, congratulated the players who made the cut challenging them to remain disciplined and work even harder to make it to the final squad that will carry Kakamega County’s flag during the KYISA 9th edition in Tharaka Nithi County from 22-30th April 2023.

The County will hold the Southern region trials on 11th March 2023 at Mumias Sports Complex from 8am where youth from Mumias East, Khwisero, Butere, Mumias West and Matungu Sub-Counties are invited to participate. This is in line with H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Social Development agenda on facilitating suitable events and activities to showcase and open opportunities for talented young men and women in Kakamega County.

Kenyan international Henry Meja currently plying trade with Swedish side Norrby IF on loan from AIK, was spotted by Kenya Premier League’s Tusker FC during the 2019 KYISA games in Kericho County.

Today’s trials were overseen by former Kenya internationals Allan Wanga, a County Sports Officer, Hesborne Nyabinge and Washington Muhanji among others.
