MCAs FAMILIARISED WITH SOCIAL SERVICES ACTIVITIES

Members of the County Assembly Committee of Labour, Social Services, Youth and Sports as well as County Executive Officers from the Ministry of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture on Wednesday converged with an aim of familiarising the Committee Members on the various sections in the Ministry and their mandate.

In-charge CECM Mr Mophat Mandela while opening the workshop thanked the Honourable Members for their invaluable support terming the cooperation key towards realization of the Ministry’s agenda.

To actualise H.E Governor Fernandes Barasa’s manifesto for the people of Kakamega County, Mr Mandela instructed each directorate to align its activities to the relevant pillar of the Governor’s manifesto and reminded them that the implemention will commence at the Ward level.

Some of the priority activities of the Ministry are completion of the iconic Bukhungu Stadium, shelter improvement programme, the Governor’s gala and the Youth Kikao, a dialogue forum between the top leadership of the County and the young people of Kakamega.

Also on the to-do list is staging up of the Governor’s Bonanza-successfully executed in its inaugural year in 2022; and training of ‘Bodaboda’ riders on road safety culminating to issuance of road licences.

Hon. Modesta Auka the Chairperson of the Committee assured that the Honourable Members will support the Ministry’s plans pointing out the Social Protection programmes being implemented by the Department of Social Services as critical in youth and women empowerment as well as empowerment of People living With Disabilities and other vulnerable groups within the County. The Department is developing a Social Protection Policy.

Also present were Deputy Speaker Hon. Benard Shitiabayi, Chief Officers Ms Vivien Ayuma and Mr Joseph Abucheri, Director County Youth and Women Empowerment Programme Mr Daniel Musita and the Deputy Director of Administration at the Ministry Mr. Cyril Mululu among others.
