KAKAMEGA VALIDATES HER YOUTH POLICY

The County Government of Kakamega through the Department of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture is in the final stages of developing the Kakamega County Youth Policy 2023; a critical document that will set the platform for involvement and engagement of Kakamega youth in Governance.

Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula Monday on Monday during a workshop convened to validate the document said the Policy is aligned to H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Manifesto and agenda pillars as well as other related International, National and County policies; and appreciated the International Republican Institute for walking the journey with Kakamega County towards ensuring the policy is operational.

The pillars of the policy are; youth empowerment, training and development, youth mainstreaming and youth participation, among others.

CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela on his part said the policy will champion for youth inclusivity and empowerment.

It now awaits submission to the County Assembly of Kakamega, by the Executive, for deliberation.

Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa in May this year launched the Kakamega County Children’s Policy, also developed by the Department marking a major milestone in championing for the rights of juveniles in Kakamega County.

Present were CECM for Health Services Dr Benard Wesonga, County Attorney CS Vivian Mmbaka, Deputy County Secretary Mr Joshua Kutekha, Youth Advisor Emmanuel Makokha, Chief Officers: Joseph Abucheri (Youth), Leah Shisia (Social Services) and Vivian Ayuma (Education) and Directors among others.
