COUNTY IN TALKS WITH NETHERLANDS OVER PROMOTION OF DAIRY INDUSTRY IN KAKAMEGA
The Deputy Governor Kakamega County H.E Ayub Savula on Thursday represented H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa in a meeting with the Agriculture Consellor at the Netherlands Embassy, Mr. Bart Pauwels in a bid to attract investment in Dairy Farming and operationalization of Kakamega Dairy Plant, from the European nation
The DG emphasized that there is need to capacity build dairy farmers on modern farming technology with an aim of finding a ready market for their milk. This, he added, will impact immensely on the Governor’s agenda on Food Security and Wealth creation.
The Counsellor was impressed by the efforts made by the County Government to improve milk production through the smart farms as presented by the CEO Kakamega Dairy Development Corporation Dr Isaac Lubutsi.
Malava Member of Parliament Hon. Malulu Injendi who was part of the delegation said the project should be fast tracked to ensure farmers are empowered.
Chief Officer Livestock, Dr Barack Otieno said introduction of the school feeding concept that will benefit 124,000 ECDE learners will provide a ready market for the investor once the Dairy Plant becomes functional.
The Kakamega team had an opportunity to equally listen to investors from the Netherlands who presented a concept on how the two can partner to improve breeds, training and milk production.
The CEO Kakamega County Investment and Development Agency pitched the Malava Dairy Proposal. Discussions on Dutch companies already operating in Kenya took a centre stage of the discussions to enable the embassy team get the areas of interest and match with suitable investors from the Netherlands.
